What the four scores mean
IQOS’s UAE TEREA page defines the four scores like this:
- Intensity: the overall intensity of the taste, made up of aroma and body together.
- Body: how full the taste feels. The manufacturer compares it to the difference between hot chocolate and green tea.
- Aroma: the scents that shape the flavour, some more pronounced than others.
- Cooling: the menthol sensation, from slightly refreshing at the low end to broader and longer-lasting at the high end.
IQOS Egypt calls strength a matter of perception that includes the depth of the tobacco taste and its intensity. That makes intensity the closest thing TEREA has to a published strength level.

Sienna, Bronze, Amber, Yellow, Blue and Turquoise are scored on IQOS South Africa; Teak and Green on IQOS UK. Where both pages score a flavour (Sienna, Amber, Yellow, Blue and Turquoise), the intensity, body and aroma scores match, and IQOS UAE gives Yellow the same scores.
TEREA Silver has no score on those pages. IQOS Egypt, on its 1 to 10 scale, puts Silver at 4, level with Turquoise, against 6 for Amber and 7 for Sienna, and describes it as a more balanced taste.
The most intense TEREA on the manufacturer’s UK page is Russet, at 5 out of 5. It is not part of the range we sell.
Why menthol can feel stronger than its score
Cooling is scored apart from intensity. TEREA Blue sits at 3 out of 5 for intensity, the same as Amber, but adds a cooling score of 4 out of 5. IQOS Egypt notes that a menthol stick can feel strong because of the cooling, not because the tobacco is stronger.
Some names signal strong cooling. In the TEREA Japan range, the strong-cooling sticks carry Black in the name, such as Black Purple Menthol and Black Ruby Menthol. In the TEREA Indonesia range, Black Green and Black Ruby are described as strong, cold menthol.
Does TEREA strength differ by origin?
The scores were published for the TEREA sold in South Africa and the UK. We sell cartons made for eight markets, from Kazakhstan to Japan, and a blend can differ slightly from one market to another. Read the scores as a guide to how flavours compare with each other, not as a measurement of one carton.
Some names also mean a different stick in Japan, where Sun Pearl and Oasis Pearl are menthol-based. The TEREA flavours guide has the taste notes for every flavour and origin we list.
Strength and nicotine
The intensity score describes taste. None of the manufacturer pages we used gives a nicotine figure for each flavour, so this guide does not rank TEREA by nicotine. Every TEREA stick contains nicotine, which is addictive.

How to choose a TEREA by strength
- Decide on cooling. For no menthol, look at the tobacco flavours, which score 0 for cooling. For menthol, compare the cooling scores.
- Pick an intensity. For a fuller taste, Sienna, Bronze or Teak (4). In the middle, Amber, Yellow or Blue (3). For a lighter taste, Turquoise or Green (2), or Silver.
- Choose the origin. Compare the carton prices for that flavour on its page.
